Sandy Springs Mayor Discusses New Small Business Relief Assistance Program

Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul said the City of Sandy Springs Small Business Relief Assistance Program is designed to help small business owners who are struggling to keep their doors open due to the circumstances of the global health crisis.

The mayor of Sandy Springs is urging small business owners impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to apply for a newly launched business assistance relief program.

On Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Mayor Rusty Paul told show host Rose Scott that the City of Sandy Springs Small Business Relief Assistance Program is designed to help small business owners who are struggling to keep their doors open due to the global health crisis.

“We are not going to save every business,” Paul said. “We are not under any illusions, but if we can save as many as we can with what we can do, then we think it’s a worthwhile investment in our community.”

The Sandy Springs City Council allocated $1.2 million for the assistance program that’s being administered by the Sandy Springs Development Authority. Paul says, since the launch of the relief program, they have seen a massive response from the public, and there’s about $300,000 still available. If approved for relief assistance, business owners will receive a payout based on their total number of employees.

“We are giving out, not huge amounts, but hopefully, it will be enough to ease the pain allow some of the businesses to keep their doors open,” said Paul.

During the conversation, Mayor Paul also discussed other efforts to help families in need during the pandemic, the implementation of a mask mandate and the recent nationwide protests after the police killing of George Floyd.
