Initiative Aims To Connect More Women To Careers In Construction Industry

Last year was a tough year for nearly every industry, due to the pandemic. However, in states like Georgia, the construction industry rebounded fairly quickly.

And who’s working in the construction industry?

It’s estimated 1.1 million women were employed in various jobs of the construction industry as of 2018. Still, this only equates to 9.9% of the construction industry in the United States.

On Tuesday, the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia marked Women’s History Month with a special Facebook Live event focused on opportunities for women in construction and the skilled trades.

Veda White, associate director of Student Success for the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia, and Brett Henderson, past president of the National Association of Women in Construction’s Atlanta chapter, joined “Closer Look” host Rose Scott on Tuesday’s edition of the program for a conversation about initiatives to increase the pipeline of women in construction.
