Centra Villa Apartment Complex Purchased To Provide Affordable Housing For Veterans

Metro Atlanta veterans will soon have a new affordable living option, thanks to a new partnership.

Community Solutions and Partners for HOME announced Wednesday the purchase of a 132-unit apartment building in southwest Atlanta.

According to Community Solutions’ website, the Centra Villa apartment complex, which is in the Adams Park neighborhood, will be used as an affordable-housing option for veterans while serving as a housing option for low-income families.

Dave Foster, director of real estate development for Community Solutions, was a guest on Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look.”

Foster talked with show host Rose Scott about receiving funds from social impact investors like the Atlanta Affordable Housing Fund, the city of Atlanta and Partners for HOME to purchase the property to provide housing for more than 65 veterans.

Foster says onsite property managers will work directly with the men and women who have served the nation.

“The property managers are able to identify issues, work with case managers, know the individuals on a much more personal level and bring a set of needs, a set of resources around their needs in a way that doesn’t typically happen,” Foster said.

The most recent Point-in-Time (PIT) Count led by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) estimated that 37,085 veterans experienced homelessness in January 2019.

Foster says Community Solutions is working to create partnerships and establish similar affordable housing projects across the nation.
