It’s been less than one year now since the shooting death of Rayshard Brooks occurred at the University Avenue Wendy’s here in Atlanta.
The fatal shooting of Brooks — a 27-year-old Black man — by a white police officer led to days-long protests and calls for change.
At the time, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms signed new executive orders, which included a number of new reforms for the city’s police department.
Since last June, activists and community members have continued to call for changes to the criminal justice system and police reform.
Recently, just one day after the Derek Chauvin verdict was announced, City Councilmember Antonio Brown proposed new legislation which would expand the Atlanta Police Department’s “duty to intervene” policy.
