A program to make rooftop solar panels more affordable is launching in Atlanta this week.
The Solarize program is basically a bulk purchasing deal: The more people who sign up for it, the cheaper it is.
“Solarize is an opportunity for residents in a city, this time Atlanta, to buy down the price of solar,” said Jillian Eller, conservation organizer with the Sierra Club’s Georgia chapter. “Basically, you get solar. Your neighbors get solar. The whole city gets solar, and everybody pays a lower cost.”
Eller said a focus of the program this summer is also to subsidize solar panels for low- and moderate-income households.
This time around, the program is focused on the city of Atlanta, for the second time. Decatur has also had a Solarize program in the past.
