‘Speaking Of The Arts': Brandon Morrison
Brandon Morrison is a painter in Atlanta. He works in acrylics, oil pastels, chalk, and pencil on canvas and wood. His ideas tend toward the figurative and draw from modernism, Cubism, and abstract expressionism. Morrison’s mother, an art teacher, cultivated her son’s early interest by keeping a home full of art books, but Morrison first gravitated toward music, playing in bands with his friends. He rediscovered painting in college, and pursued his future in art in the city of Atlanta, which he loves for its diversity and its “vibrancy, a cacophony of sound; there’s lots of movement.” Morrison cites influence by greats like Picasso and Bearden, but his work also evokes graffiti and hip-hop musicality. He paints under the pseudonym IBLet, and runs IBLet Studio out of the Beacon in Grant Park.
