Atlanta NAACP President Richard Rose released a statement on behalf of the chapter sharply criticizing former mayor Kasim Reed for actions during his previous terms in office, which Reed has called false and without merit.

The NAACP national leadership responded with a statement warning Rose he could face suspension or expulsion if he continues making political endorsements, saying it is in violation of the organization’s by-laws.

Rose says he stands by his statement as a private citizen, but he should not have released the letter on NAACP stationary or on behalf of the chapter.
