Corrina Sephora is a metal sculptor and mixed-media artist specializing in blacksmithing. She explores emotion, memory and ritual with what she calls “repetitious imagery,” prominently featuring trees, ladders and nautical and celestial motifs.

The artist first encountered metalwork in early childhood, helping her father in his construction workshop. At that age, Sephora called welding “electric lighting.” The nautical images from her artwork are inspired by a family history of boat-building and seafaring.

She moved to Atlanta in 1996 after graduating from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, and though she cherishes the coastal life, Sephora says the landlocked city she calls home influences her with its strong arts community, as do “the Cherokee and Creek people who, at one time, walked on these lands.”

Though her art emphasizes the natural, she also draws ideas from human events and the news, having recently created a series of sculptures made from guns, transforming them into new things. Her public art pieces can be found all over the Atlanta area, with permanent site-specific sculptures in Smyrna, Roswell, Decatur, and central Atlanta.
