A Mural Becomes A Memorial To Atlanta Hero John Lewis
In 2012, a mural appeared at the corner of Jessie Hill Jr. Drive and Auburn Avenue — a portrait of the late Congressman John Lewis.
A single word was painted above the civil rights icon “HERO.”
The mural also features a quote from Lewis’ speech at The March on Washington.
“I appeal to all of you to get into this great revolution that is sweeping this nation. Get in and stay in the streets of every city, every village and hamlet of this nation until true freedom comes, until the revolution of 1776 is complete.”
“City Lights” host Lois Reitzes speaks with a member of the art collective Loss Prevention and the artist responsible for this six-story celebration of John Lewis, Sean Schwab.
