70% of COVID-19 patients at Grady Hospital are unvaccinated

The leader of Grady Memorial Hospital says the COVID-19 coronavirus is an evolving disease.

“It’s only been present for two years if you think about it, so when we are continuing to watch a disease evolve and then try to adjust the message accordingly, it creates confusion,” said Dr. Robert Jansen, the chief medical officer at Grady Memorial Hospital. Jansen reflected on how the mixed messages about the global health crisis can cause concerns for the public on Monday’s edition of “Closer Look.”

Jansen also talked with program host Rose Scott about how Grady Hospital is coping with the current surge of the omicron coronavirus variant happening across metro Atlanta.

He further explained that 70% of the people seeking treatment for COVID-19 have not been vaccinated and that all of the beds at his hospital are occupied, but his staff has worked overtime and been able to treat patients.
