Acting Insurance Commissioner Takes Oath, Makes History

Georgia officially has a new acting insurance commissioner.
John King has become the second in that role to take the oath of office this year.
King replaces Jim Beck, who just five months into his tenure was indicted on 38 counts of fraud and money laundering from his time with the Georgia Underwriting Association. Beck, who maintains his innocence, is currently under suspension.
Unlike his predecessor, King does not have insurance industry experience. But the longtime law enforcement officer and Brigadier General in the U.S. Army National Guard, knows his mission.
“To restore public trust in this department by doing the right thing,” King said, standing inside the state capitol building Monday afternoon. “I will work hard, lead with integrity and always put Georgia families and consumers ahead of politics and special interests.”
“Every state agency, every government agency ought to be absolutely transparent. This should not be a big challenge for people doing hard work.”
King, who was born in Mexico, becomes the first Hispanic statewide constitutional office holder in Georgia history.
