When the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns to Atlanta each year, it’s a joyous occasion – like a family reunion, if your relatives happen to be brilliant dancers.
Every year since 1976, the Alvin Ailey Dancers return to the Fox Theatre during Black History Month. This season’s program includes works in response to gun violence, the destruction of a thriving African American community, and Ailey’s signature work concluding every performance — “Revelations” — the triumph of joy over adversity.
“City Lights” host Lois Reitzes spoke with Ailey artistic director Robert Battle about the new season.
