On Tuesday, July 2, 2013, state investigators shut down an Alzheimer’s care home in Commerce, GA, after charging 21 current and former workers there with some 70 counts of abusing patients.  The raid came just one day after a new elder abuse prevention law, HB 78, took effect in the state.  Both events–the raid and the new law–again raised questions about how well the state is doing in protecting some of its most vulnerable citizens.  WABE’s Denis O’Hayer spoke with the two chief sponsors of the legislation:  Rep. Wendell Willard (R-Sandy Springs), and Sen. Renee Unterman (R-Buford).
