One of American theater’s most treasured plays, “Our Town,” was described by its playwright as “An attempt to find a value above all price for the smallest events in our life.” The rich exploration of life’s humbler moments was adapted to an opera in 2006 by composer Ned Rorem and librettist J.D. McClatchy.
And the work will be performed by the Georgia State University Opera Theater April 15 and 16. In this interview, J.J. Hudson, Georgia State University Valerie Adams Professor of Opera and co-director of GSU Opera Theater’s production of “Our Town,” spoke with “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes about the production.
The opera is on stage at the Rialto Center for the Arts on April 15 and 16, and more information is available here.
