Another Downtown Stadium Plan For The Atlanta Falcons

What’s wrong with the Georgia Dome and does Atlanta really need a new multi-purpose stadium?

WABE’s Rose Scott has more on the new proposed retractable stadium.

A new stadium isn’t a bad idea says sports economist and Kennesaw State associate Professor J.C Bradbury.

But he hopes there are no economic promises of big revenue to tout the idea.

“Economic impact studies that are often done that we see are often rosy, they underestimate the cost the overestimate the benefit and there’s double counting and there are strange multipliers that don’t seem to make much sense,” says Bradbury.

The new retractable stadium could lure more events to Atlanta but Bradbury adds it’s always challenging to keep a large stadium booked, “Falcons have 8 home games a year, eight and then you have some college football games, you got some high school playoff games, you got monster truck rallies, concerts but even then it’s nowhere near being full all the time,” he says.

The Atlanta Falcons are currently in a lease agreement with the Georgia Dome.
