APS Superintendent Begins Community Meetings On School Closures

The next two weeks will be busy for Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Erroll Davis.

Beginning Tuesday, March 13th 2012, the superintendent will hold community meetings for schools slated for closure under his recent redistricting proposal.

WABE’s Rose Scott has more:

It seems everyone with a vested interest in APS has an opinion or suggestion as to how the superintendent should rezone the district.

That’s not a surprise says Davis, “I fully expect to get reaction from community and organizations that do not want schools closed.”

His rezoning plan includes closing 13 schools and consolidating others.

Davis intends to hold public hearings at all of those schools and declares the feedback from the community is important.

However he is not tipping his hand as to whether or not more changes are in store.

“At this point I cannot point to a particular change that I know that is going to be made but I would expect the final product is going to look different than the product that I put out on the table early in March”

Superintendent Davis will also hold separate community meetings to discuss the entire redistricting plan.

He’ll submit that to the APS board in April.
