Atlanta, GA – Local companies and non-profits rushed to the aid of earthquake victims in Haiti this week.
They pledged millions of dollars in cash and supplies.
They also created opportunities for consumers to give on their own. The Atlanta Business Chronicle's Crystal Edmonson reports.
THAN HALF OF THE 5 MILLION DOLLARS DONATED VIA TEXT MESSAGE CAME FROM AT&T MOBILITY CUSTOMERS. THE ATLANTA BASED COMPANY WAIVED TEXTING FEES TO ENCOURAGE GIVING. DAWN BENTON IS AN AT&T SPOKESPERSON.
((The texting initiative where you text HAITI to the 90999 code, AT&T customers in particular, have donated 2 point 6 3 million dollars.))
IF TEXTING YOUR PLEDGE DOESN'T APPEAL, LOCAL KROGER AND PUBLIX STORES WILL LET YOU ROUND UP YOUR PURCHASE TO THE NEAREST DOLLAR. THE MONEY WILL GO TO THE AMERICAN RED CROSS. DELTA WILL LET YOU DONATE SKY MILES TO TRANSPORT AID WORKERS. HOME DEPOT, COCA-COLA AND UPS HAVE ALSO PLEDGED FINANCIAL SUPPORT.
FROM THE ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE, I'M CRYSTAL EDMONSON FOR WABE NEWS.
