Jessica Caldas is a Puerto Rican American, Florida and Georgia-based artist whose work connects personal and community narratives to larger social issues.
A new exhibition by Caldas, “Every Stage of Becoming,” explores ideas of community connection, imagining a world where there is collective support for everyone at various stages of life. In this interview, Caldas spoke with “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes about the exhibit.
“There’s an almost morbid humor in some of it. The tired body figure that I use in my work is this sagging, exaggerated figure that is clearly overcome with fatigue or whatever else you could subscribe to it,” Caldas said.
