When artists put their heads together, anything is possible. Recently, five artists collaborated on a collective exhibition at the Roswell Visual Arts Center in an experience once musical, visual and poetic.

The centerpiece of the exhibition will be the paintings of Karl Kroeppler and Vincent Rinehart, all works made in collaboration between the painters, and depicting poetry of Dana Gioia, the renowned poet, past Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts and former Poet Laureate of California.

In addition to the paintings, music by jazz pianist Helen Sung supports the poetry readings, and interpretations of the works in sculpture are contributed by Barbara Rinehart.

The Poet and the Painters” will be displayed from April 26 through May 23 at the Roswell Visual Arts Center.

“Images come to mind when you read his [Dana Gioia] poems so as consequence, it was kind of interesting to take those images and put them on canvas with oil,” said Rinehart.

Gioia continued, “The thing that a poet wants to do more than anything else is speaking to the imagination of his or her readers.”
