Atlanta Airport, Airlines, Prep for Winter Storm
Air travel through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport could get especially tricky as severe winter weather bears down on the area.

Delta Air Lines spokesman Morgan Durrant says the Atlanta-based carrier will cancel “many” flights this week.
That’s why Delta and other airlines are encouraging travelers coming in and out of Atlanta to shift their travel plans. Those who must travel should monitor Delta’s website or mobile app, Durrant says.
Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly tells WABE both Southwest and its AirTran subsidiary have been prepping for the storm for days.
“In winter weather in particular, things just slow down,” Kelly says. “It takes longer to handle bags and fuel an aircraft. All of that has to be taken into consideration.”
Most carriers are waiving ticket change fees.
Meanwhile, Hartsfield-Jackson spokesman Reese McCranie says the airport has 100,000 gallons of de-icing fluid, 50,000 pounds of de-icing pellets and 50,000 pounds of a salt/sand mixture.
He says the airport plans to be “open and fully operational” through the storm.
