Matthew Evans is an Atlanta-based painter whose work reflects the distortions found in everyday reflections.

“My work kind of spans a wide range of topics,” he says, “but one of the primary visual themes that I deal with is distortions — like heat waves or weird reflections [in car windows], the kind of things you see every day.”

As of late, he’s been experimenting with 3D modeling and 360-degree photos of environments, trying to understand what radical shifts in perspective can inspire in himself and his viewers.

Evan’s love of Atlanta creeps into his work, echoing his connection to the city and his constant observations of Atlanta’s perpetually shifting social and physical landscape. Although he doesn’t necessarily try to add Atlanta to his work, it finds its way in there anyway, coming from “an artist in Atlanta who cares about Atlanta and is trying to be a part of the fabric of the city.”

Matthew Evans has murals all over Atlanta, including ones on Wiley Street in Cabbagetown and at Comet Pub and Lanes in Decatur. To find out more, check out his Instagram @mevans192 or his website www.matthewevansart.com.
