On the “City Lights” series “Speaking of Music,” local musicians share their work and stories in their own voices. In today’s segment, we feature Atlanta band Run Katie Run.

The band’s front-runner and singer Kate Coleman describes their music as “roots rock music… but mainly because we don’t really stick to a certain genre.”

Coleman got her start in music via a gifted karaoke machine, realizing her passion for singing in middle school. By the time she got to college, she had been in a run of bands, which led to her meeting her future, Corey, the lead guitarist in Run Katie Run.

“We moved down to Georgia about 12 years ago and [have] just been trying to get our music out there, playing shows, touring, writing, ” says Coleman, “our whole house is a recording studio now!”

When speaking on the things that push her to be her best, Coleman explains that, “I’m in a band with my four best friends and husband, and they are the ultimate inspiration and motivation. They push me to try to be the best version of myself all the time in a very loving way.”
