On City Lights’ series “Speaking of Music,” local musicians share work and stories in their own voices.
In today’s segment, we feature Atlanta-based heavy metal boy band, Zyx [pronounced Zicks]. “Our music is the soundtrack to the party that’s life,” says Niko Maheras, guitarist and vocalist for the band.
“Our music is hard rock and there’s a lot of influence of metal and punk as well as music from the 50s and 60s,” says bassist Jackie Whiting. “We always jokingly say that our music is like a heavy metal boy band.”
“I’ve been into music as long as I can remember,” drummer and vocalist Alec Floyd said. “When I was like, 3,4, or 5 years old, my grandmother got me a guitar and to this day still can’t really play it, but at around 12, I got into drums and it really just clicked and been playing ever since.”
