Atlanta-based lawyer discusses lease agreement for proposed police training facility
On Monday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Alex Joseph, an Atlanta-based attorney, discusses the terms and conditions of the lease agreement between the City of Atlanta and the Atlanta Police Foundation for the proposed site of the police and fire department training facility called by protesters as “Cop City”.
Joseph talked with show host Rose Scott about her independent review that reveals that city leaders can legally terminate the controversial project even after some Atlanta City Council leaders expressed they couldn’t.
“The mayor can act unilaterally to cancel the contract by simply giving written notice to the Atlanta Police Foundation, “said Joseph. “In addition, the city council can vote on and pass a resolution, legislation in which they also cancel the contract.”
Joesph further explained that the contract term allows the Atlanta Police Foundation to pay $10 a year to rent 300 acres of forested land.
