On City Lights’ series “Speaking of Music,” local musicians share work and stories in their own voices. In today’s segment, we feature violinist Carey Durham. He enjoys playing soul, jazz and blues music.
“I actually got started in music at a very young age. I have my parents to thank for that. I have two younger sisters and an older brother, and we all started playing violin at the age of six,” said Durham. “To be honest, it was a little bit of a chore for me when I was younger, but as I got older into middle school ages, I started to really associate the instrument to be a part of who I was, and from that point on I started digging deeper becoming passionate about wanting to express myself through that platform of violin.”
The two songs featured in his segments are covers, one of them by the Eisley Brothers called “For the Love of You.” Durham is in the process of releasing more original music and he has a show coming up on Aug. 12 in Ellijay, Georgia, at the George Link Jr. Gilmer Arts Playhouse.
