Atlanta Public Schools has had three superintendents since 2020. Interim superintendent Dr. Danielle Battle is currently serving on a one-year contract while the Atlanta Board of Education conducts a national search for a permanent school leader.
The board’s original deadline to select a superintendent was July 1, but the board recently voted to extend Battles’ contract to Dec. 31.
Erika Mitchell, who serves as the chairwoman of the Atlanta Board of Education, says the board is aiming to have a new superintendent by July but has extended the deadline to find a permanent superintendent to sometime in the fall.
On Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Mitchell discussed the recruitment and interviewing process. She also noted that the recruitment firm is opening up the recruitment pool, and candidates now have until May 17 to apply.
