Atlanta Braves Preparing for Playoffs

The Atlanta Braves begin their playoff run with a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday.

The Braves made it to the postseason nearly 20 times over the past two decades, but they've only won a single World Series, in 1995.

Could this be the year?

“Of the newer era, you know, after some of those pitchers like (John) Smoltz and (Tom) Glavine and (Greg) Maddux had left, I do think that this is the best shot that they have to go all the way,” says I.J. Rosenberg, the president of Score Atlanta, a marketing company.

Rosenberg was a Braves beat writer for the Atlanta Journal Constitution during the Braves domineering years.

He says the 2013 roster is flexible, and has coped well with problems, like injuries.

“This team was able to push through a tremendous amount of adversity this year.  It's been extremely impressive.  Management has done a great job of sort of filling the holes as well as the minor league system.”

But, he says, if the Braves are going to win it all, they're going to need to show killer instinct.

“You've got to be able to slam the door shut in October.  You've got to show some emotion, you know.  If you look at some of the team, St. Louis is a good example of a team that has done a lot of that,” says Rosenberg.

The Braves have home field advantage against the Dodgers in the National League Division Series.
