But the Windy City could reclaim busiest bragging rights in a matter of months, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.
The paper points to FAA statistics which show O’Hare handled only about six percent fewer takeoffs and landings than Atlanta from January through June.
And, traffic at Chicago’s main airport is on the increase.
Air traffic controllers there say a new runway set to go online this fall will only help O’Hare’s efforts.
But reclaiming the title might not be so black and white.
In January, Hartsfield-Jackson saw 2.5-million more passengers than O’Hare. That put us in first place, but Chicago in 7th.
