In the October 10th edition of The Atlanta Journal Constitution, a 10-page section will be dedicated to reviewing nine area school boards.
WABE's Rose Scott has more:
Over a two-month period 9 AJC reporters compiled information voluntarily given by board members as well as information obtained thru open records request.
Charles Gay is the Sunday and investigator editor for the AJC.
He says with area school districts facing various problems- the report is beneficial to readers.
Charles Gay:
“we felt like this was really time for us to take a look at all the school boards and talk about them, the background and the proper of governance and everything that readers might want to know about these people who are really important leaders in our community and play a very important role in the education of our children”
Gay says the reports in Sunday's paper will also include education background and other details of board members:
Charles Gay:
“so we put together 88 board members and candidates for school boards this year and found that 40-percent of them either had bankruptcies or tax liens in their backgrounds”
The nine districts are Atlanta, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Forsyth, Cherokee and Fayette.
