On the “City Lights” series “Speaking of Art,” local artists share insights into their influences, processes and experiences in town. This edition focuses on Atlanta oil painter Erin Drakeford.

Drakeford creates large-scale oil paintings that incorporate sculptural elements and found objects into her works. She explores “the connection between our mind and our body and how much control our minds have over how our body works.”

She has been creating art since childhood and carried her passion into adulthood with an art degree from the University of Georgia. After being offered a show at a friend’s gallery, Drakeford decided to take the plunge into painting as a serious way of life, and has not looked back.

Some of her favorite galleries in Atlanta are Echo, The Contemporary and the Mint Gallery. More information on Erin Drakeford can be found here or on her Instagram!
