Atlanta Pre-Arrest Diversion Initiative Expands, Aims To Help Those In Need Of Resources

For several years, a local program known as the Atlanta/Fulton Pre-Arrest Diversion Initiative has worked with law enforcement to reduce arrests of those in need of resources.
Recently, the program announced plans to expand its services.
Starting this year, community members can call Atlanta 311 to refer individuals facing mental health challenges, substance abuse or homelessness to PAD.
On Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Moki Macias, PAD Executive Director, and Karlise Newman, PAD Harm Reduction team specialist, spoke to host Rose Scott about how the initiative aims to provide an alternative to arrests and incarceration.
