Atlanta’s Comedy Binge Brings Comics To A Screen Near You

Binge watching is the order of the day, so it might as well apply to comedy. Comedy Binge is an all-day comedy festival happening this Saturday.

Organized by comedy show producer and comedy enthusiast Brian Salman, the festival takes place at the Relapse Theater and will be streamed on the World Wide Web.

That might not seem surprising, given that just about everything has been streamed online in real time, and technologies like Facebook Live have made it all the more ubiquitous.

Salman, though, was not able to find any sort of live comedy streaming and hopes to make Comedy Binge that platform for comics.

Atlanta-native Rob Haze will headline the festival, and throughout the day, another 50 comedians from a diverse array of backgrounds will perform, including a 12 year old.

Each comedian will have 10 minutes to deliver their best material, and Salman emphasized that the comedians’ information will be displayed while they are performing so that audiences can remember them.

“Discovery is so important and with so many other art forms, particularly music, there are so many services dedicated to that — Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music — that just say, hey, you like this, you should like this,” he said. “And we just don’t have that with comedy.”

Unlike the stylized, rehearsed and edited comedy specials you might find on Netflix or HBO, Comedy Binge hopes to bring a real comedy club to your couch, bed, hammock or other lying-around device.

Comedy Binge is this Saturday starting at 1 p.m. You can watch it live or on the web.
