Atlanta Sikh community holds vigil
The Atlanta Sikh community held a prayer vigil over the weekend in Centennial Olympic Park. They remembered the 6 people who were killed in the shooting last Sunday at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin.
Around 300 people filled the amphitheater at the edge of Centennial Olympic Park. Children held up pictures of each of the victims as people lit candles and chanted.
Fifty year old Parminder Singh was one of the Sikhs in attendance. He said that all Sikhs are part of the same community regardless of where they’re located.
“So many times so many events happen, but they don’t touch your heart because it doesn’t happen to you and something like this happens, it touches your heart and you want to do something to show that you’re part of the community and you want to send a message,” he said.
Though the crowd was predominantly Sikh, there were members of the Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta present. They addressed the crowd with prayers and sympathies from a variety of religions.
