In the midst of Atlanta’s innumerable spooky season spectacles, a joyful, colorful celebration of life is taking place!
The Mexican and Latin American holiday of “Dia De Los Muertos” or “Day of the Dead” honors those passed on with traditional, beautiful costumes, games, ofrendas (or decorated altars), and delicious food.
This year, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is joining in with their most expansive “Dia De Los Muertos” celebration to date, featuring live music and activities at the Woodruff Arts Center, all taking place on Oct. 29.
In this interview, Brandi Hoyos, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion director, joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to speak more about the festival and concert.
“If they close their eyes, they can feel the connection. They can smell the delicious food, they can hear their mother tongue in the background, and they can hear the sounds of the music that is representative of their culture,” Hoyos says.
