Atlanta’s dance scene is vibrant and eclectic, and we are honored to highlight some of the many local dancers that move us with their movements in our ongoing series “Speaking of Dance.”

This edition highlights Atlanta dance artist Rebecca Harman, founder and director of Neighborhood Ballet and Rise City Dance.

Harman’s background is rooted in the rigors of ballet, an art form that initially led her out of Atlanta on a professional journey to discover a more serious community.

After years outside of the city, Harman returned to Atlanta and became a new mom, which led her to start her own dance company (and studio), inspired by both the challenges of maternity and the” history, architecture and the music scene of East Atlanta.”

The risk of starting a studio and dance company has paid off for her in recent years, as her businesses have been embraced by neighbors and dance enthusiasts alike.
