The Atlanta Track Club announced Friday executive director Tracey Russell is leaving the organization. The news comes less than two weeks before the Track Club’s premier event, the Peachtree Road Race.

The Peachtree Road Race is the world’s largest 10K race. 60,000 runners will hit the 6.2 mile course July 4. At a joint press conference in the spring, Russell along with city and police officials, assured runners and the public there will be increased security at this year’s race. Safety became a primary concern following a pair of bombings at the Boston Marathon in April.

Russell has accepted a job as the Chief Executive Officer of the Los Angeles Marathon.

The Atlanta Track Club declined to comment on Russell’s departure, but said in a statement she’ll stay with the organization through the Peachtree Road Race.  The Track Club will form a search committee to look for Russell’s replacement.
