Atlanta Track Club Welcomes New Exec Director

Rich Kenah has been running all of his life.

He entered his first race at the age of six.

“From there I developed into a decent age-group runner, and then high school runner and then college runner, and then a national class athlete and then an international class athlete and now I am back to being the everyday runner, like everyone else.”

In addition to being an “everyday runner,” Kenah — who won bronze medals at the 1997 World Indoor Championships and the World Championships — is also the new executive director of the Atlanta Track Club.

The organization, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, hosts dozens of running events annually.

That includes the AJC/Peachtree Road Race, the largest 10K event on the planet.

“I see myself and  I see the Atlanta Track Club as a steward of a world-class event and my focus is to continue that legacy,” says Kenah. An audio version of this story.

Although the AJC/Peachtree Road Race is still a few months off, preparations are underway.

Security is a major concern.

“The reality is, the world in which we live in 2014, especially post-2013 Boston Marathon, requires us to focus on the health and safety of both our participants and spectators,” says Kenah.

He says the Track Club is working alongside local, state and federal officials to make sure the race is as safe as possible.

The registration lottery for the race begins this weekend.
