Atlanta’s Urban Youth Harp Ensemble

The harp is an instrument that conjures images of femininity and wealth, but the Urban Youth Harp Ensemble at Atlanta's Carver high School is quietly dispelling this stereotype.

– The Carver Harp Academy was founded in 2000 when Elisabeth Remy-Johnson, the Principal Harpist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, who wanted to start a harp ensemble in an urban school, met music teacher Roselyn Lewis. WABE's Wanda Yang Temko was at a recent rehearsal where students were preparing for their Holiday Concert.
