Balfour Reinstated to Republican Caucus

Georgia Senate Republicans moved quickly to reinstate State Senator Don Balfour to the party’s caucus, taking a phone vote Thursday just hours after Balfour’s acquittal on charges of falsifying his legislative expense reports.

Senator Butch Miller (R-Gainesville), who chairs the caucus, said, “We live in a nation and society of forgiveness and a society of redemption and that, in the United States of America, more than any place on earth, redemption is available.”

The caucus required a two-thirds majority vote in favor of Balfour’s reinstatement. But his suspension from the state Senate ended automatically with his acquittal. Balfour also regains his position as Chairman of the Senate Reapportionment Committee.
