The first monument created by an indigenous artist in Atlanta since the Indian Removal Act of the 1820s is now displayed on the Atlanta BeltLine. “Naw’-tsiʔ: Bear Effigy Vessel” was created by indigenous sculptor Chase Kahwinhut Earles of the Caddo Tribe.
His contemporary pottery is inspired by and created out of the Caddo tradition. The large-scale sculpture is located on the Eastside Trail of the BeltLine in front of Ponce City Market. In this interview, “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes speaks with the artist about his artwork, BeltLine sculpture and the tradition of Caddo pottery.
