At Black Art in America, the art of printmaking is alive and well, and enjoying a rare spotlight. Last year, the gallery launched the nation’s only fine art print fair focusing on works by African American artists and discovered an enthusiastic community of collectors ready to celebrate achievements in printmaking.

This year marks the second annual Black Art in America Fine Art Print Fair, taking place Aug. 9 through 11, and featuring artwork by such icons as Romare Bearden, David Driskell and Elizabeth Catlett, as well as contemporary and local artists.

Black Art in America founder and CEO Najee Dorsey shared with host Lois Reitzes of “City Lights” their reasoning for spotlighting the work of printmakers, telling her, “People forget about the brilliance of printmaking, the process, and the history. A number of artists, that’s how they make their mark, that’s how they’re most known.”

Exploring that history is integral to understanding how many of these legendary artists left a lasting impact on the arts.

The Black Art in America Fine Art Print Fair will occur Aug. 9-11 at the Black Art In America Gallery and Sculpture Garden in East Point, GA.
