Books with Philip Rafshoon: Two Heroines, Twelve Tribes, and Dozens of Cakes

The AJC-Decatur Book Festival‘s Philip Rafshoon, in for Daren Wang, drops by to fill us on the week’s book events.

Tara Conklin reads from her book The House Girl at the Georgia Center for the Book at Decatur Library, Wednesday, March 20 at 7:15 pm. Weaving together the stories of two heroines: an escaped slave in the pre-Civil War South and a contemporary lawyer seeking compensation for the families of slaves.

Ayana Mathis reads from her debut novel The Twelve Tribes of Hattie. Hattie is the latest Oprah Book Club 2.0 pick. Mathis’s reading takes place Thursday, March 21 at 7:15 pm at the Georgia Center for the Book, at Decatur Library.

Entrants in the the Edible Book Festival, presented by The Literacy Volunteers of Atlanta, will take part in a cake bake-off based on books. Each cake should represent a character in a book or the book itself. The sweetness starts Saturday, March 23 at 1:00 pm at the Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur.
