In collaboration with the forces of nature themselves, Core Dance is presenting two site-specific performances at locations on the Chattahoochee River.

“Braiding Time, Memory and Water” represents the work of Core Dance artistic director Sue Schroeder, composer Felipe Pérez Santiago and conceptual artist Johnathan Keats, in contemplation of our watersheds and their natural rhythms. The first performances will occur on Oct. 19 at Powers Island, with another installment of the series taking place next spring at Zonalite Park.

Sue Schroder joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to discuss “Braiding Time, Memory and Water.”

“In the process of doing the research for this project, I was influenced by the actual action of river water; it makes a fluvial braid as it travels,” said Schroeder.

“Water is really the memory of all time, it’s the same water being recycled at different times through the lifetime of the planet. There’s so much memory in the water and also the land that the water passes through.”

The performance involves a series of small floating installations designed by Johnathan Keats to be released on the river and timed with a composition by Santiago.
