Braves Are Tops in National League East

There’s still one week left in major league baseball’s regular season.

But there won’t be concerns about the Atlanta Braves making the playoffs.

That’s because the team has clinched the National League East division.

Broadcast version of this story.

There will be no September collapse as in the past when the Braves had a stranglehold on the top spot in the N.L. East and then it dissipate like a cigarette in the rain.

Sunday while the Braves were beating the Chicago Cubs, the Washington Nationals were losing to Miami.

And in the end it meant the Braves would be crowned National League east division champs.

The Braves have maintained a solid lead in their division for a while.

And this is despite losing key players to injuries and having a losing winning percentage in the month of September.

Still, these Braves endured.

And by the way, it’s been a while since the team clinched a division title.

In fact, the last came in 2005.

Now they still need wins to gain home field advantage.

The good news is that the Braves close out the regular season with seven straight home games at Turner Field.

And that’s a place where the Braves have a high winning percentage.
