The Alliance Theatre presents the world premiere of one of its 2024/2025 Alliance/Kendeda National Playwrighting Competition winners. Breakout star playwright Milo Cramer earned the prize with “Business Ideas,” a comedy about getting rich.

The play follows a mother and daughter mulling over a series of entrepreneurial schemes while other dramas unfold around them in a neighborhood coffee shop.

The show will run through Dec. 15 on the Alliance Theatre’s Hertz Stage. Cramer recently joined Lois Reitzes on “City Lights” along with director Matt Torney.

Cramer started by explaining that the play is very much based on his own experiences with his mother, an 80’s business school graduate who was always pitching and attempting new business ideas, and his own experience in the service industry.

“I didn’t know, as a young person, how serious this was,” said Cramer about his mother’s habit of constantly pitching new businesses to start around the house. “It seemed to me like a quirky family pastime.” The play focuses on the contrast between those two worlds, mixing hope and despair with dreams of creating a better life.
