The Buckhead Community Improvement District is seeking public feedback on its idea for a deck park over Georgia 400.

The proposal is for a 7- to 9-acre open area on top of the Buckhead MARTA station and the highway with connections to Lenox and Peachtree Roads.

“The reason that we’re looking at this is because it has emerged as probably the best opportunity to create a gathering place for the community to come together in the heart of Buckhead,” said Jim Durrett, the executive director of the Buckhead CID.

There’s also talks about a similar project, called “The Stitch” for the Downtown Connector area.

That would be 14 acres long, covering Spring Street to Baker Street.

“We’re losing a lot of our parks and greenspace and they’re building everywhere, so the more green we can bring the city, the better it is,” said Veronique Pryor, an architect with Atlanta-based Stanley, Beaman and Sears.

There’s no official timetable for either project.
