Burrell Ellis Trial Delayed

The corruption trial of DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Burrell Ellis has been put on hold.

The trial was set to begin August 19, but today DeKalb Superior Court Judge Courtney Johnson granted a request for a delay from Ellis’s attorneys.

The judge has not yet set a new trial date.

Governor Nathan Deal suspended Ellis from office last month.

Ellis is charged with extortion, conspiracy, and theft. He is accused of trying to force vendors to contribute to his campaign fund in order to keep their contracts with the County.
