An audio version of this story.

Butch Trucks helped form the Allman Brothers Band in 1969 with guitarist Duane Allman and keyboardist-singer Gregg Allman.

They were all from Jacksonville, Florida, but they set up a home base in Macon, Georgia, and recorded some of their most famous songs at Capricorn Records there.

Trucks continued to play drums with the band until it broke up in 2014.

In addition to his time with the Allmans, Trucks also led the Freight Train Band.

No word yet on cause of death.

Trucks was 69 years old.
