Illegal street racing is a growing problem in the metro Atlanta area and cities across the United States.

Lili Trujillo, a California mother working spread awareness about the dangers of street racing through her nonprofit organization, Street Racing Kills, says she is fighting for stronger laws to holds street racing organizers, drivers and spectators accountable.

On Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Lili Trujillo recalls the tragic day that her 16-year-old daughter Valentina D’alessandro was killed in a street racing accident in Los Angeles County.

She told show host Rose Scott that the pain of losing a child is like no other. “Every part of my body was throbbing, my hair, my nails, everything,” said Trujillo. “It’s just, you see your child one day to another, then they disappear,” Trujillo explained.

During the conversation, Trujillo also talks with Scott about keeping her daughter’s legacy alive through the work she’s doing through Street Racing Kills and her organization’s partnership with LAPD’s Street Racing task force. Trujillo also shares her hopes about one day working with Atlanta officials to combat illegal street racing.
