The rising stars of today’s classical music have a place to shine in Atlanta with the Nancy Frampton Rising Artist series, a classical recital showcase at Morningside Presbyterian Church.

A much-anticipated performance from soprano Chelsea Lehnea is coming up on Oct. 20 after a reschedule. She has sung lead roles in productions of opera’s  beloved canon, from “Rigoletto” to “Turandot” to “The Magic Flute.”

Lehnea recently performed the title role in a pioneering revival of the lost-and-nearly-forgotten female composer Carolina Uccelli, whose opera “Anna di Resburgo” just saw its first performance since 1835.

The singer joined Lois Reitzes on “City Lights” to discuss this rare revival, as well as Lehnea’s upcoming recital in Atlanta.

“This concert will be all music that I dearly, dearly love to sing,” said Lehnea about Sunday’s performance, “So there will be a mix of American arias, Italian classics and I’ll be finishing off with a couple of Disney princess songs.”

Lehnea’s role in the resurrection of Uccelli’s nearly forgotten “Anna di Resburgo” held some incredible moments for her and the audience, she explained.

“It does not sound like any of the other bel canto composers. While it still has the form and style, she has such a unique and beautiful, composer language. She very much understands how to build up the passion of a scene and give it the calm that it needs right before the passion comes back. There’s such a balance in the music of the intensity with such gentle moments. And what I also love about her work particularly is the goodness that she writes in each of these characters.”
